The scandal around the “Oscar” associated with racial discrimination
(when the organizing Committee of this prestigious film was accused of being overwhelming
the number of academics — it’s the white men, and old age) was the cause
serious innovations. It became known that now the new members of the Academy who
will decide the fate of prizes will be foreigners, women, representatives of the national
minorities. Among those who have already received an invitation to join the American
Academy, there were two Russians: the President of the festival “Kinotavr”
Alexander Rodnyansky and documentary filmmaker Viktor Kosakovsky.

Both filmmaker known in the West and have an excellent
reputation in the world of cinema. Rodnyansky, who is producing the films by Andrei Zvyagintsev, indeed, has a strong position — as
in Europe and in the United States. Drama “Leviathan” with the participation of Aleksey Serebryakov, Vladimir Vdovichenkov and Elena Lyadova, for example, was nominated for
the award “Oscar” in the category “Best foreign language film”. In the same
the nomination of the film Zvyagintsev got “Golden globe” and it was the first
the history of post-Soviet cinema winning Russian films in this prestigious category.

Alexander Rodnyansky admitted that he was glad rendered to the trust.
But modestly remarked that many of the hundreds of thousands of professionals world
cinematography could be in his place.
