Still in school, Leonid started to play football since the third grade, played in the football section, and when he became a student of Institute of physical culture in his native Volgograd, was a goalkeeper of the newly established Settlement team “Star”. When the son was very young, Slutsky moved to Moscow, and his family in Volgograd. Later they bought an apartment not far from the capital of the stadium “torpedo”, and together moved there.

After the “Moscow” Leonid Slutsky has been appointed coach of the Samara club “wings of the Soviets”, and later moved to CSKA. The next stage in the biography of Leonid Slutsky began his appointment as coach of the Russian national football team in August 2015.

This position he combined with coaching at CSKA. Such a workload is not the best way affected the personal life of Leonid Slutsky – he’s very rarely at home, but the coach’s wife never rebuked spouse that he barely spend time with the family, Irina took his life and did everything possible to make her husband a good home.

She got used to the fact that Leonid Viktorovich does not do anything with their hands, and therefore, all household chores are on her shoulders and the shoulders of the mother-in-law, who lived all his life with them.

In 2017, Leonid Viktorovich was appointed coach of English club hull city. For this he had to learn English to between him and the players were more understanding. Before him stood a challenge to return the club to the Premier League, from which he departed in the previous season, but the task was not performed, and in August of the same year, the contract with Leonid Viktorovich was terminated.

In March of this year it became known that Leonid Slutsky was invited to the Dutch club Vitesse, and he will be the first Russian coach in the Dutch championship.

Leonid Viktorovich is actively working in the fields, far from the sport. So, in his youth he was an active participant in Volgograd the command of KVN “the Third sons”, took part in the program “Good jokes”. Slutsky gladly accepted the offer to lead the team of experts of the club “What? Where? When?” which consisted of players of Russian national football team.

The team won, which was held ahead of the European championship 2016. As a sports commentator Leonid Viktorovich debuted last spring, when he led the match a quarter-final of the Champions League along with the Nobel Arustamian.

After a successful debut Slutsky again has acted as a commentator of football matches, broadcast on the First channel.
