The actor in an exclusive interview with “StarHit” told how in the film “a traitor like us” they were hiding from camera. In the film he played a teacher of Makisa Perry, who met with Russian gangster named Dima and becomes a hero cunning bandit.
The actor played one of the leading roles in the movie “a traitor, as we are.” Hero Ewan McGregor, teacher Perry Makes lost the meaning of life. He is a University lecturer, insecure and oppressed Gail own wife, a successful attorney, played by Naomi Harris. In the end, Perry has an affair with his own student, and it does not leave a feeling of guilt. The main character with his wife goes on holiday in Morocco, to revive the old feelings. There Perry meets with the Russian gangster named Dima (Stellan Skarsgard), who is tying the lecturer to your plan. Dmitry is trying to get asylum in England to escape from enemies. All you need to do Perry, to help a friend is to take the message to MI-6 from a man named Hector (Damian Lewis).
Euan how you would describe your character? He was at a crossroads?
Perry teaches at the University of London in London. In the past he worked at Oxford University, to his wife Gail studied legal law. When the contract is in the “Oxford” was over, he began to give lectures in London. Just there and he happens to be an affair with one of the students. The film begins in Morocco, where the rest of Perry and his wife Gail in the hope of saving the marriage and to rekindle old feelings. Makes not confident. His hopes in terms of building a career in the “Oxford” was not successful. He can not earn more Gail. In the end, successful wife starts to suppress it. Feelings Perry in confusion. He feels like a loser. In the end, spins an affair with a student.—
Were you familiar with the work of writer John Le Carre, on whose book the film, to participate in this project?
Honestly, I didn’t read any of his books, but of course, know him as a writer. Le Carre is a master of the Thriller. Seen the films based on his stories: “the Spy who came in from the cold” and “Tinker tailor soldier Spy!”.—
How did you prepare for filming?
This has been happening for a long time. I liked my hero, and indeed the movie has a lot of attractive points: it’s MI6, and Russian oligarchs, and interesting relationship between Perry and Gail. First pair is not very good, their marriage is on the verge of collapse, but then the situation changes.
How is it that a normal couple in the end turns into real spies?
Everything happens by chance. They get acquainted with Dima, and he draws them into his plans and machinations. After lunch, Dima is calling Perry, introduces him with the Russian Bratva, they get drunk. Dima is a Russian boss. So it turns out that Perry somehow whet it, and in the end, he is drawn into gang violence and Gail drags behind her.
How far will you drop your spy?
The shooting took place on the streets of London. Then we went to Paris, Bern and Marrakesh. Picture something reminiscent of the film about James bond. It will be an international story.
The film will be the four main characters: Perry, Gail, Dima and Hector? How long did you used to each other?
In fact, we rehearsed together the first week, though doing so rarely. We rehearsed with each other, portraying different emotions. First, Naomi and I, and then Stellan and me.—
The friendship that develops between Perry and Dima, perhaps, is at the center of the film. You like to work with Stellan Skarsgard?
I’ve worked with him before in the movie “Angels and Demons”, and he was so cool and pleasant guy to deal with it – a pleasure. He has a great sense of humor. When Stellan comes to the site, it is impossible not to feel its powerful energy. His character he is a major figure, he is full of energy, a real Russian lion and leader.—
In your opinion, what Director Susanna white brought to this project?
People ask me, is there any difference between a Director a man and a woman? In fact, every person is different and it is impossible to separate chaff in the grounds. Each brings something unique. I do not know at the expense of the feminine qualities of Suzanne, but the fact that she’s a person, strongly focused on work, it’s true. She carefully reads the script, knows everything to the smallest detail. And generally Suzanne – very clever.
What can you say about operator Anthony Dodd Mantle?
He is very talented: shoots through the glass and still using these tiny cameras. He is the original. As Stellan, he is full of energy, enthusiasm and very attentive to everyone that feels damn good.—
Is it true that you often didn’t know where was the camera?
Yes. After all, they are usually placed above us or somewhere to hide. Yesterday we shot the scene in the mirrored Elevator and did not even know that hidden camera behind the glass, which was a mirror. Often cameras are placed in rather strange places, but it’s nice to not know where they are. I yesterday saw the scene captured in the Paris apartment. Perry and Jail are in some sordid lodging with prostitutes. They are in danger. The event develops in an unexpected way. There is even a scene of violence. The cameras were stuffed everywhere. I managed just once to look in the monitor to Anthony, and he was sent on a turtle, which is on the floor. And he was shooting a scene as it would have seen the turtle! It was great.Anthony works on different cameras. He has a huge, but very often he takes on the “baby”, I don’t know her name, but this device looks like a camera. He also takes on tiny devices. Sometimes works from nine different. But when you watch the movie, you won’t even notice.—
Does it help you as an actor that you don’t notice the camera?
When you’re in the shot, camera and crew for you disappear. Of course, some part of the brain is aware of where they are, but not much difference. You’re working for.
