“25 years ago, the idea of ​​​​opening a standard beauty salon did not seem attractive. We wanted something unusual. So we decided to bring a little sun to cold and cloudy Moscow.”

Let us recall that the fashion for a tanned body appeared back in 1923 thanks to Coco Chanel, when she returned with a tan from a trip to Cannes. Since Coco was a trendsetter, ladies immediately picked up this trend.

Then the German scientist Friedrich Wolf invented the solarium, and his brother Jorg began producing lamps for solariums in 1975. Since then, it has become prestigious to have a bronze artificial tan all year round.

By the end of the 20th century, solariums were at the peak of popularity in many European countries, while in Russia this niche was vacant.

Julianna Wiener found two factories in Germany that produced the best solariums. She bought the first units and sent employees for internships in successful solarium clubs in Berlin. In 1999, the first Sun&City salon was opened in Moscow.

“From the first days of opening, it became clear that we had made the right decision. There were many more people who wanted to be under the warm rays for at least a couple of minutes, warm up and get an attractive tan than we had. Even though we worked around the clock and seven days a week, we still constantly had queues of 2-3 hours.”

There were also difficulties in this business. The most difficult year was 2014, when major global brands released cosmetics lines with SPF and began a massive campaign against ultraviolet radiation.

The sun began to be demonized, with stories about how sun rays were to blame for almost all known diseases. People began to apply a thick layer of SPF products to themselves, afraid to go to the store for bread without them.

Fortunately, the mass intimidation has stopped. Modern studies have appeared on the positive effects of sunlight. It turned out that a lack of ultraviolet radiation leads to much greater negative consequences for the body than its excess. In addition, the negative effect of some components of SPF products was revealed – they can lead to cancer and skin diseases, among other things.

Proper consumption of ultraviolet radiation not only helps maintain a beautiful skin color, but even treats some diseases. Sun&City uses its own methodology, developed over the years, for safe tanning for people with different skin phototypes. Thanks to this methodology, salon guests tan, and do not burn.
