“There is a sad, even sad experience. The husband of my grandmother’s sisters, uncle Vanya, was Stalingrad. He had damaged his right hand. She had a hook and hung. And here it is me, the boy, still a child, loved a lot of things to tell. But at the time I was five years old, and I didn’t understand much. I asked again in a more adult, I again repeated their stories. And all this military horror in front of me stood up “in full growth”. Of course, me he told. What was he to hide? Besides her grandson,” the actor recalled in an interview.

On the set the actress was not easy, she was in a film a couple of months after the baby is born.
Peresild told about her character. “She was killed by the Nazis, not the people who defended their city. Besides Folk was the sniper, and they have a different perception of the enemy, because he is at a distance. But I played not just the woman, whom the war turned into a robot. Quite the contrary: my heroine goes to war ready for anything, she wants to fight, but then postponed the test, first love, loss, make it a man, a woman, not a soldier,” said Julia in an interview after the film’s release.

“At first I took “Spy novel” as a historical detective, decided that the film will be in the same vein, but the Director Andrianov with producer Chumakovym chose a very different, very interesting move. They put an incredible event although it look believable, unrealistic ideal in Moscow. It seemed to come down with joyful paintings socialist realists. There looking into the distance avenues with rows of skyscrapers, a giant Lenin on top of the Palace of Soviets, the airships in the night sky, marching pioneers, the friendship of the Soviet peoples at the people’s Friendship fountain at VDNKH,” said Kozlowski about the film.
