The venue of the festival was rightly selected arc area. It was here, on Mayakovsky square, building 1, five years after his birth, the young troupe “Contemporary” has found its first real home. Prior to that, since the founding of the theatre on 15 April 1956, Oleg Efremov United young artists, recent graduates of School-Studio of MKHAT, five years were forced to wander at random sites. “Contemporary” gathered crowded halls, remaining essentially homeless.

On triumph square were legendary troupe of the Contemporary – artistic Director Galina Volchek, Sergei Garmash, Marina Neyolova, Liya Akhedzhakova, Alla Pokrovskaya, Valentin Gaft, Chulpan Khamatova, Artur Smolyaninov, Alena Babenko, Olga Drozdova, young artists and all employees of the theater.

Artistic Director of the Moscow theater Sovremennik, people’s artist of the USSR Galina Volchek, welcomed the guests. “Dear friends, thank you for this day with us. It is incredible that we went back to the beginning, to the area where the “Contemporary” took his first steps. Thanks to the Chereshnevy Les for this holiday. We went back to his youth. Here it is written: 60, and I want to say 60 and put three exclamation marks, and question three then, too!” Vouchak said.

On one evening may 14 triumphal square was plunged into the atmosphere of the early 1960-ies: under the shadow with the city Park with swings, theatre tables and monogenically again walked the girls in puffy skirts with polka dots and bright blouses, and young men sported trousers-whistles and ties-“the herring”. The atmosphere of the evening was the most informal. On the stage at the Mayakovsky monument – the symbol of the thaw, again, just as 60 years ago, sounded powerful and vivid poems – Pasternak, Brodsky, and Voznesensky, Yevtushenko, Akhmadulina performed by Contemporary actors Chulpan Khamatova, Sergei Garmash, Alena Babenko, Arthur Smolyaninova.

On stage-shell – indispensable attribute of all urban parks of the late 50-ies – the summer was a real musical and artistic evening, organized by the artists of “Contemporary”. They sang the verses of poets of the sixties and favorite songs of those years: “Tenderness”, “time of love”, “Good girls”, “lilies”, “Hopes a small little band.

“Most of all I was touched by the rehearsal of the evening: we sang the songs that were played at that time and danced here. But us on Mayakovsky square, on the place where was once “Contemporary”, nobody was there. Here we were absolute masters. It was incredible happiness. The theater wants to wish his youth, of joy, of risk and excitement, always go forward no matter what,” he extended his warm words the actress Chulpan Khamatova.
