By itself an interview with 53-year-old star Rachel Weisz is already a rarity, and when it comes to private life, this is a real sensation. This time, the reason for a sincere conversation was Weiss' new acting work, a series called “Death Tied” – in the frame, Rachel appears in two roles of twin sisters at once – they both work as gynecologists. The series is a remake of the 1988 horror film of the same name.
After the release of the picture, the creators were hit by a negative reaction from part of the audience – they were dissatisfied with the excessive, in their opinion, frankness of the scenes of childbirth and miscarriages shown. In an interview, Weiss admits that she was surprised by such a reaction: “I just wanted to tell the story of a female experience, and we did not seek to exaggerate or dramatize anything. This is life, reality, ordinary women go through it. Probably, this is not often seen on the screen, therefore our show could possibly break new ground in cinema,” Rachel says, adding, “I had a miscarriage. You suddenly see blood coming out of your body and it's all just part of a woman's life.” When exactly the actress survived this tragedy remains a mystery.
Rachel also shared her opinion about prohibition of abortion and the death penalty – discussions about this have not subsided in the United States for several months now: “Now it seems more and more often that life can be easily lost – you can simply be shot from a machine gun in a school or a supermarket. The authorities can condemn a person to death, deciding that “he deserves to be executed. But at the beginning of life, for some reason, a woman is not given a choice. I can't explain it. A woman has the right to decide everything on her own.”
