Today we were informed of the death of Montserrat Caballe, the Opera singer, who became famous primarily for its excellent technique of Bel Canto and the performance of roles in classical Italian operas of Puccini, Bellini and Donizetti. The artist died in the hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona, reports the newspaper El Espanol.
The cause of death of 85-year-old Montserrat have not yet been reported, but it is possible a futile struggle with serious disease. Citing sources close to the family of the singer, we can say that the disease was a serious problem with the gallbladder, where the singer complained recently. It’s what Montserrat was in the hospital in mid-September, where he died. Initially the doctors had given the disease specific nature, considering that this is a common aggravation. The doctors were going to cut the singer after the festival La Mercè, which took place in Barcelona on September 24.
In recent years, the Opera singer did not give Grand concerts. In 2002 he got in a car accident. She suffered serious injuries, which was subsequently on crutches or a wheelchair. It is reported that the funeral of Montserrat caballé will be held on Monday, Tanatorio de Les Corts. The funeral will be held tomorrow, Sunday, starting from 14.00 in the same medical center.
Montserrat was born April 12, 1933 in Barcelona. Since childhood, she knew that he would dedicate his life to music. At age 9 she entered the city the Conservatory of Liceu. After graduating from high school, the future Opera diva went to Italy, where the star once was not. She was given only a secondary role. The first success came to the actress after a successful Mimi in La Boheme in the Swiss State Opera in Basel. Debut in the United States occurred in 1965. In 1987, she along with Freddie mercury recorded “Barcelona”. Five years later she became the anthem of the Olympic games in Barcelona. At the opening ceremony, the singer sang “Barcelona” with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras.
