Rihanna at Met Gala-2015

This year the annual Ball costume Institute, or Met Gala, for the first time initiated by the costume Institute in 1946, will celebrate its 70th anniversary.

Devoted to the theme of Manus Machina x: Fashion in an Age of Technology (Manus Machina x: fashion in the age of technology) “star collection” on may 2nd. And after only a couple of days at the costume Institute opened, and the eponymous exhibition that aims to illuminate the process of merging high technology and high fashion as we enter the twenty-first century.

In anticipation of the coming celebration the participants of the ball of the past years – from Nicole Kidman and Sarah Jessica Parker to Katie Holmes and Donatella Versace – remember the greatest moments of its history, part of which they were lucky to be.

Remember, I just received the “Oscar” in 2003 and became the co-host Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld at the Met Gala. I have never had a boyfriend, and go was not with anyone, so I asked Adrien Brody to be my date. He also just received the “Oscar”.

Remember when we climbed the stairs, which spread out the red carpet, and I felt like a real Princess.

Michael Kors

I go to the Ball costume Institute in 1980, when his theme was selected The Manchu Dragon: Costumes of China, the CH’ing Dynast (“the Manchu Dragon: Chinese costume of the Qing Empire”).

I was very young and incredibly enthusiastic! My date was Vera Wang. She was dressed in a dress-a combination of Michael Kors and tied around the waist mohair sweater. I had to borrow my friend’s tuxedo and went to the Met Ball. Met there Mrs. Vreeland with Vera Wang, then a senior fashion editor at Vogue for my clothing brand, and he went to the Ball like Cinderella.

Sarah Jessica Parker

The most memorable for me was the year where the theme of the Ball was the creativity of Charles James [approx.ed. – 2014], when Anna Wintour asked me if I wanted to act as a co-chair. I decided that, since it also acts as a co-chair Oscar de La Rengta, I should ask him to create for me an outfit for the Ball. I was so worried, but he said Yes.

I really wanted to decorate the train of the dress is embroidery in the form of brand labels Oscar de la Renta. We talked about her size and decided that it should be as big to get on camera.

Alber Elbaz

I most of all I remember the year when my date was Emma stone [approx. ed – 2012-th]. She looked amazing in the red dress that we made for her in Lanvin.

My mom was thrilled that I accompanied it Emma stone. She then said, “albert, you will have a beautiful wedding.”

We then became friends with Zach Posen, and I asked him to go to the Met Ball together. The evening was truly magical. That night I didn’t care for the paparazzi.

For many years my dream was to wear for the Met Gala cher. And when I finally decided to suggest it (in 2015), she said “Yes”. I was very confused and excited.

Coco Rocha

The most memorable of my outfit for the Met Gala was the one I chose in the year of exhibition on Schiaparelli and Prada. I decided to don the costume of one of their idols – Elizabeth Taylor. A year earlier I was at an auction at Christie’s, where are her clothes, and bought pink and yellow Givenchy jumpsuit, which she purchased back in the 1980s.

I remember then asked me: “What are you going to do with it?”. And I said, “Wear this at the Met Gala”. It was a large red stain from the wine that spilled more the Elizabeth Taylor, and I, of course, did not dare to give him to the cleaners.

Zac Posen

For two and a half years I was an Intern in the library of the costume Institute. He became for me a real school.

In the first year I went to Prom, the theme of which was the work of Versace. I bought a ticket for $ 60. I then had to save to afford it.

Every time I met Diana Vreeland, she always patted me on the shoulder. She was the first who invited me at Vogue as a model. That’s why I went to the annual Met Gala, organized by it.

I loved even just being with her. The way she told stories, it was even more important than the essence of these stories. She attracts the attention of all males around, although they could be distracted! She was one of those who taught others to see the beauty, to see something different, new. Because of her, I always took very seriously the selection of dresses for Prom.

Karlie Kloss

At Met Gala, dedicated to Charles James, I sat next to Oscar de La Renta, who has always been for me a mentor and a friend. Between the two of us then had a very sincere conversation. He told me how he fell in love with his wife Annette – after lost his first wife, dead from cancer. I could not imagine that it was one of the last conversations between us.

Dress of black and Golden lace, which I wore with black gloves, made the evening simply magical. I felt like Audrey Hepburn.

At the last Met Gala I was honored to share the table with such incredible women, like Jennifer Lopez, uma Thurman and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. And was able to communicate with Justin Bieber, Cara Delevingne and Stella Macartney.
