The IOC decided to suspend the athletes without explanation. Ksenia Stolbova, acting in pair skating and Ivan Bukin, who is competing in dancing on ice, is not allowed to contest.
It became known that the two skaters, Ksenia Stolbova and Ivan Bukin suspended from participation in the next Olympic games to be held in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang. The international Olympic Committee did not explain the reasons for which Russian athletes are unable to compete in the prestigious event. The Federation of figure skating in our country is outraged at this decision, which has no good reason.
The IOC suspended the national team of Russia from participation in the Olympics in 2018
“This groundless and absurd decision once again demonstrates the inconsistency of the statements of the IOC about the denial of external influence on its decisions, and violates all basic norms set out in the Olympic Charter, in particular the rejection of discrimination, respect the principles of solidarity and fair play”, – this statement appeared on the official website of the Federation of figure skating of Russia.
Clarify that the 25-year-old Ksenia Stolbova acts paired with Fedor Klimov. At the European Championships, which took place just a couple of days ago in Moscow, the athletes took the second place and was aimed to improve results in the upcoming Games. Skaters won in the team competition at the Olympics in Sochi in 2014, and in the individual competition got silver, losing our compatriots Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov.
Ivan Bukin, in turn, works in tandem with Alexandra Stepanova. At the recent European Championships they took bronze. Despite the fact that the athletes planned to participate in the Olympics under a neutral flag, now they even lost the opportunity to show the world the result of hard work and many hours of training.
However, the figure skating Federation is going to defend the right of Ksenia and Ivan to participate in the upcoming competition.
“We intend to immediately begin the struggle for the restoration of fairness to the Russian figure skaters and to defend the honor and dignity of our athletes in every possible way”, – said in a statement.
Athletes and fans are outraged at this decision of the IOC. They expressed their indignation in social networks and encourage skaters not to lose heart.
“It’s a complete mess already! Forgive me for such words! And foreigners say that the sport is politics! The IOC, WADA (World anti-doping Agency. – Ed.), everyone who has taken these decisions – critters, filth, breaking life pure athletes, people who put life and soul for the sake of sport! Heart breaks from the news!” – on emotions, wrote Alexei Yagudin in the microblog.
Maxim Trankov joined colleague and also angry from the bad news. “We are always there. And always will be. Fedor Klimov, hang in there friend!” – he turned to his partner Ksenia Stolbova, who now, apparently, will have to refuse to participate in prestigious competitions.
Yesterday it became known about dismissal of other Russian athletes. Shipulin and Ustyugov were not allowed into the Olympics in Pyeongchang
