British media reported that London 96 year of life died actor Douglas Wilmer, by Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series 1965-1968. He died yesterday in hospital from a long illness.

Wilmer was born in 1920 in London. After service in North Africa, Douglas entered the Royal Academy of dramatic art. On stage, he first appeared in 1945 and early ‘ 60s got their first role in a movie. Over a lifetime, Wilmer has appeared in more than 70 films and TV shows, but his most famous role was the character of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes.
On the website of the community of Sherlock Holmes (“The Sherlock Holmes Society of London”) has honored the memory of the deceased artist.
“Douglas Wilmer will be remembered for his wit, always surprised by the attitude towards life and generosity. The time spent in his company is memorable” — said in a statement to the community.
