Next week in Sochi will host the 28-th festival “Kinotavr”,
which will debut Yulia Peresild as a member of the jury of the main program. But
the actress will see not only the competitive picture, but a movie with his participation. Drama
Pavel Chukhrai “Cool tango”, where Peresild has played a major role is in the film
the opening of the “Kinotavr”. Julia admits that waiting for the premiere with great excitement,
after all, her journey in this picture was a very thorny…

“Cool tango” is a story of love and hate two
unlike people who first met in childhood, in Soviet Lithuania
40 years. The second world war tied their fate is inextricably drama
node. The story begins in June of 1941, when a small Lithuanian town
occupied by the Germans. Max (Elisha Nikandrov) with her mother and younger sister Leah
have to leave home. Their family is in the Jewish ghetto, but
the boy manages to escape. Under cover of night, Max returned home and
know that it is already settled Lithuanian family. The father of the Lithuanian family
Vincas (Andrius has Bialobrzeski) initially takes the fugitive in arms, but still
decides not to extradite him to the Germans. Here, in the “native-alien” to max’s house
life and his children’s love for the daughter of Vincas – blond Lima (Asya
Gromov). This dedicated and selfless love will be the big test
endured already grown-up heroes.

War, hard life in an orphanage in Leningrad,
the grueling work at the plant in the Russian province – nothing could make
Max to forget Lima. In the late 40-ies Max (Rinal Mukhametov), sincerely
who loves his country, returns to his hometown. He again finds Lima (Julia Peresild), but it doesn’t look like the girl from his memories… hungry
post-war Lithuania, the troubled, the happy ending seems unthinkable. Heroes
have to make a difficult choice between traditions, beliefs and
prejudice, which was marred by the worst cataclysm
the twentieth century – the Second world war.

Said Paul Chukhray: “the film I’m trying to tell you how
the repressive machine of fascism not only killed people, but how it played off
survivors. Played off on racial grounds… As she broke the soul
and the fate of even well adapted to her people… Despite the scale of the affected
problems, I conceived a film, chamber in form. I focused all my attention,
all the development of the plot, the fate of the two characters.”

Yulia Peresild argues that Paul Chukhrai and producer Sabina
Yeremeyev did not see it in this story. “Now I can say this
with confidence, she says. – This, of course, has its own logic: home
heroine – Lithuanian. Probably easier would be to take a Lithuanian actress, who
naturally and easily pass on their nationality, Baltic
character, a familiar flavor.” But Julia is not one of those who gives up easily.
She goes on auditions, she often asks them to organize. Here was the same. “And
some point I realized that I, Paul G. very good, just
again – and flew. I felt that
he sees me in this role, despite any lack of logic – all my
previous roles and my physique was saying that the role is not for me. Girl
had to have model looks (if we talk about a direct hit
of casting), she had to be more exalted, emancipated,
in short, totally different.”

At some point the casting Director of the film stopped calling. Julia realized that, in parallel, trying many
other Actresses. “I to such situations very jealous, she explains.
– If I end up not going to participate in it, then I certainly accept that, but if
I argue, I start digging and try to discover in ourselves and in other pitfalls. It
as in the relations of men and women. If quickly met and parted is
life, it happens. But if you realize that something could happen, and the man
(Director) looks at someone else, there is the thought “I’m not the only one, I don’t
one?”. But we eventually felt Paul G. some common wave
realized we’re going together.”

Samples were equally painful and for the leading
male role – Rinal Muhametov. Peresild recalls his first meeting with
him: “I imagined he was some happy guy. We were not
familiar, but the image of me presented such. These people make me tense and
frightening, because as a rule they are not very deep, and sometimes just
empty. Well, not serious people to constantly smile and be all happy.
Not here and not in our environment. And here is our first meeting in the dressing room, we decide
a little “stretch” the text… And suddenly Rinal begins to stutter, cannot speak
a word to me, but warns that it’ll be okay. I sobbed out
from the dressing room: I’m so shocked. I was hung up on the person
the label of “mindless pretty boy”, and then realize that it’s not true that it
there is a story of my more difficult, perhaps. I became terribly embarrassed and appeared
interest.”

“The peak of our relations with the Rinal’ became a dance – continues
Peresild. Unfortunately, the film is quite a bit of it. Then I realized that we
very well each other we feel we two hours to put the dance
it turned out great, passionately, emotionally. We tuned on the same wavelength”. Shooting
the film was very difficult. Even from one of the memories of them in many
actors there is a sense of tension. Peresild drew strength from emotional
background: “In General, on the set I felt not that Queen, but
a real woman. Because I always was surrounded by these
men filmmakers of the old school. And operator Igor Klebanov and Paul
G., and Michael Gerdin, and all the others – all eyes were on me, including
as a beautiful woman.” The result of their joint work Julia, her colleagues and all
the participants of the “Kinotavr” will see a June 7. But it will be an indoor festival
display. But in wide release, the film by Pavel Chukhrai will be released later, on June 22.
