Yakut “Oscar” made of 1,386 kg of silver and holding a ritual vessel caroon. Jewelers have created an award from a sketch by famous Yakut sculptor Nikolai Chichasova.

“This idea arose about 10 years ago, but lacked the courage to implement it. The film “Survivors” really touched all of us and we finally decided. We, yakutians, know about life and survival in the far North. So we decided to celebrate his role,” said a member of the initiative group shares Tatiana Egorova.

The statue fell into the hands of the film only by the end of March. Leonardo DiCaprio posted a photo of Yakutsk “Oscar” in his instagram and thanked the residents of the Republic.

Thank you to the people of Yakutia for this wonderful gift, especially all of the women who gathered and donated the materials that went into creating the statue. As they wrote in their letter, Yakutia is home to the coldest inhabited place not only in Russia, but also on Earth – and the region is extremely vulnerable to climate change. “As the creators of the figurine wrote in his letter, Yakutia is one of the coldest inhabited places not only in Russia but also in the world. And region is extremely vulnerable to climate change.
